A Personal Shopper

I’m not sure my family knows how lucky they are to have me as their personal shopper. I headed out to Sam’s club this morning with a long list in hand. I seem to shop more and  more at the super stores since I am feeding 4 adults usually 2-3 meals a day! Of course you can’t get everything you need or want at one store so I also had to make a stop by the grocery store. I arrived back home, starving and ready for lunch but I had to put it all away first. I had a mug of butternut squash soup, a small turkey sandwich and a Z bar for dessert. I want to share with you a few of my favorite grocery finds.

My daughter Katy and I are quite fond of these boxed soups. They are creamy and smooth and flavorful on their own but we like to add a little nutmeg to the butternut squash and some basil to the tomato and roasted red pepper.

I know that not everyone lives where there is a Trader Joe’s so look at your regular grocery store for the Pacific brand of boxed soups. I like both  brands equally well. Shake, pour and heat, how easy is that? I like to have mine in a mug so I can drink it. To round out the meal make a small turkey sandwich or spread some hummus on pita bread. The soups pictured here are all around 90-100 calories per 8 ounces, 2 g fat and 1-3 g fiber. I always  have a snack bar in my purse and in the car for when my blood sugar takes a dive.

The TLC bars are my favorite to carry with me because, they don’t melt, they have nuts and grains and contain some protein to help stop those little hunger pangs. Each flavor is delightful. When hubby travels I send an assortment of  TLC bars with him.These are sold at the grocery store, Target, Costco, Walmart and drug stores. Each TLC bar contains, 140 calories, 5 g fat, 4g fiber, 6-7 g protein. Z Bars are organic and come in a variety of flavors. Today I bought an assortment package at Sam’s club containing honey graham, chocolate chip and the family favorite, chocolate brownie!  There are other flavors but these three are my picks. I treat Z bars as more of a dessert, they contain more sugar, more carbs, less fiber and less protein than the TLC bars. The chocolate chip tastes like a cookie, the brownie one really does taste like a brownie with oatmeal, the graham tastes like a soft graham cracker with frosting. These can be found at Trader Joe’s, Sam’s club, Target, Whole Foods and the natural foods section at the grocery store. The stats vary depending on the flavor but here is the range, 130 calories, 2-4 g fat, 3 g fiber, 3 g protein, Old WWPs 2 / New WWPP 4-5 depending on what flavor.

gnu foods flavor & fiber bar. These come in a variety of flavors I bought a couple of banana walnut bars this time but there is an orange cranberry that I like too. These are more pricey than the other bars and I find them less filling but I buy them once in a while for variety. They are very flavorful, soft and moist.
