Let me just warn you in advance that these innocent looking snacks are addictive. You just can’t stop eating them as they are so yummy! Portion them out into singles serving containers straight away or only make them when you have someone to share them with.
Spicy Roasted Chickpeas
- 1 tablespoon Olive Oil
- 1 1/2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon cayenne
- 2 – 15 1/2 ounce cans chickpeas (garbanzo beans) drained, rinsed and patted dry
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Arrange racks in top and bottom thirds of oven.
2. Stir together oil, chili powder, cumin, salt and cayenne in large bowl add chickpeas and toss to coat.
3. Line two large rimmed baking sheets with aluminum foil, spray with nonstick spray.
4. Divide chickpeas between the two pans. Bake, shaking pans occasionally and rotating pans from top to bottom shelves after 20 minutes. Bake until chickpeas are browned and crisp. Approximately 35-40 minutes total baking time.
Serve warm or at room temperature. Store in a lidded storage container. They do lose their crispness after being stored but I like them soft too!
This recipe can easily be cut in half.

I have also used the Moroccan Spice Mix below. Use 1/4 – 1/2 teaspoon to one can of chickpeas for oven roasting. I love the spicy kick it has and it fills your kitchen with the most delicious aroma! I found the Moroccan Spice Mix recipe on Kayln’s Kitchen and she said it came from Fine Cooking magazine.
Moroccan Spice Mix
- 2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon sweet paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon allspice
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Mix together all ingredients and store in a glass container with a lid. Use 1/4 – 1/2 teaspoon to 1 can chickpeas for oven roasting. The spice mix is also good on oven roasted vegetables.
