Coconut Oil and Coconut Butter can be a part of a healthy diet. Coconut oil has the same amount of calories and grams of fat as Olive oil. Coconut oil and coconut butter are solid at room temperature. They are a saturated fat, but not all saturated fats are created equal. These Organic cold pressed coconut products are non-hydrogenated, cholesterol free and rich in Medium Chain Fatty Acids (MCFA’s) which are broken down by the body, immediately sent to your liver where they are converted into energy rather than being stored as fat!
Coconut oil on the left note the serving size is 1 tablespoon.
Coconut butter on the right serving size is 2 tablespoons.
What is the difference between coconut oil and coconut butter?
Coconut oil is pressed from the coconut flesh. It has a mild coconut smell and taste and can take high heat making it good for cooking with. Use in cooking, popping popcorn in it, add to your smoothies and hot oatmeal. I used it in my home made granola this week. Yummy!
Coconut butter is whole coconut flesh ground into a creamy butter. (Like a nut butter) It contains more fiber and carbs and sugar than the oil. It tastes sweet and coconutty! Great on toast, bread, use in baking, add to your hot oatmeal, let it melt over veggies or add to smoothies.
The coconut oil and coconut butter are solid at room temperature. In the summer they really soften up and are easier to scoop out of the jar! Deliciously addictive!
They can be used on the skin as a moisturizer and you will smell good too!

NUTMEG NOTES
I keep a variety of oils on hand for cooking and baking. Olive, canola, grape-seed, coconut and walnut are currently in my cupboard. Butter, coconut butter, peanut butter and almond butter can usually be found in my pantry as well. I use them sparingly in recipes to add a nice rich touch of flavor. Variety is the spice of life!

Thanks for that info Tami! It’s so funny, I just saw that for the first time at the store and thought, what do you do with that?
It’s nice to know you can add it as part of a healthy diet. And popping popcorn with it sounds AMAZING!!
Have a great day!

I had no idea. I learned a lot from today’s post. Thanks Tami! I’m sitting here thinking I might use coconut oil in place of olive oil next time I make a curry. I bet that would add a delicate level of flavor to make it even more yummy!

I’ve tried the coconut oil and hope to make Lori’s (Finding Radiance) coconut butter recipe this weekend. The jars, they are expensive for this unemployed person’s budget.

I love coconut and have never heard of coconut butter! I love to mix nut butters into my oatmeal. I’m feeling a coconut/cashew/oats mixture coming as soon as I can get my hands on some coconut butter!

I have heard about both but have never tried them. Do you buy them in a health food store? I’ll have to look into it.
thanks for the information on it.
I think Barbo uses coconut flour…have you tried it?

Carol I buy them at Whole Foods but you can find them at Health Food Stores and maybe even the health food department of some grocery stores.
I first bought some back when I was doing low carb – years ago! I have not used coconut flour but I have been seeing so many recipes for it on the Gluten free
blogs. I bet it is delicious for baking with.

Thx for this great post! I have been reading about both & the “controversy” over saturated fat & then that the coconut sat fat is fine for a while now…. researched it a while back…
Anyway, great post & I was going to mention Lori’s post on how to make coconut butter but Cammy already did!
