I was out for my morning walk when I happened to look down at the sidewalk and saw some loose change. It was quite a bit of change, someone had a large hole in their pocket! I bent down and picked it up. At first, I thought about a little saying that I was taught when I was a small girl. “See a penny, pick it up, all the day you’ll have good luck.” Does anyone else remember that saying?
I got to thinking about how loose change on it’s own won’t buy much today. However; when you put change in a container and keep adding to it, that small change starts to build up! Before you know it you have dollars!
You already know where I am going with this! It is the same with small changes regarding our healthy choices. On it’s own one small change in our choices might not seem like much but when we continue to make that small change a healthy choice day after day, it creates a bigger change in our overall health! Those days turn into weeks and the weeks turn into months and pretty soon you have a whole year of healthy changes behind you!
I have found it much easier to make small changes along the way to improve my health. It’s too overwhelming to me to try and change several things at once! As you know I gained 6 pounds and I keep losing one or two pounds and then gain it back! This little weight gain has put me right square in between a size 4 and a 6. Arrrgh! The 4′s are too tight and the 6′s are too baggy!
There is the option of gaining a few more pounds and the 6′s would fit The only thing to do is buckle down and lose those annoying 6 pounds! I just need to make a few small changes and mornings in my closet will be happy again. Insert singing birds here!

Small Change Challenge Guidelines
The challenge: You choose a small change you want to work on that will improve your healthy lifestyle. It doesn’t have to be about losing weight but it needs to be about improving your health. You can choose a new challenge each week or continue to work on the same challenge all four weeks.
When: Starts June 1, 2011 and ends June 29, 2011.
There will be two random drawings including all participants who complete the four week challenge! One prize is Bob Greene’s New Book 20 Years Younger! You can read my previous review of this book here. It’s packed full of great information, food plans, skin care tips, exercise tips and recipes!
A second random drawing winner who completes the four week challenge will get a prize package including a few of my favorite little kitchen items! More details and photos to come! And you thought favorite things ended with Oprah! Not so my friends!

All you have to do is challenge yourself to make a small change for 4 weeks! Easy peasy – you can do it!
How to participate:
1. Leave me a comment on this post by midnight Pacific Time, June 1, 2011 telling me you are going to participate in the Small Change Challenge. This gets you one entry for the prizes. On June 1st there will be a kick off post for the challenge and I will share what my small change goal will be. Everyone in the challenge will leave a comment on that post stating what small change goal they are working on the first week. Remember to pick just one small thing to work on each week.
2. Bloggers must post about the Small Change Challenge on your blog with a link to this post, on or before June 1st, feel free to use the Small Change Challenge Image in your post or put it on your side bar. Come back and leave me a link to your post in the comment section of this post. This gets you a second entry for the prizes. You don’t have to have a blog to participate. You can post your small change challenge goals and updates on my weekly posts about the challenge.
3. Like the Nutmeg Notebook Facebook page or mention the Small Change Challenge with a link to this post on your Facebook page and leave me a comment and link to your facebook comment on this post telling me you did for an additional entry in the giveaways.

Let me know if you are going to work on a new challenge the next week or continue with your first one.
Bloggers will post an update sometime on their blog each week before or on each Wednesday in June. Then on my Wednesday Small Change Challenge post, leave a comment about your progress and a link to the challenge update post on your blog. The link allows others in the challenge to follow you!
