Eating Well In San Francisco

San Francisco is a wonderful place to visit. The shopping, sight seeing and food are amazing. You can get just about any type of cuisine your little heart desires and at just about any price point too! Coffee shops, cafes and full service restaurants are everywhere. Healthy plant strong options were easy to find in the city even in the food court at the mall! Let’s hope it’s a trend that spills out into the rest of the world. We didn’t have time for any fancy meals as hubby Tom was working long days but we still managed to enjoy some good eats.

Lunch SF

On Thursday I was walking by Boudin Bakery after shopping at Macy’s and the sign said,Vegan Vegetable Soup! I had a cup of soup and half a veggie sandwich. Delicious and very filling. I was a happy camper. The next day I was walking past a little cafe called Urban Picnic so I checked out the menu posted in the window and saw the Kale Quinoa Salad with nuts, berries, tomatoes, carrots, nori and a sesame ginger soy vinaigrette on the side. I loved this salad that was made to order – so fresh, crunchy and yummy! Not pictured was lunch at Chipotle where I had my favorite salad with the new sofritas – which is a spicy tofu mixture that is super yummy.

Golden Era

Dinner one night was at the Golden Era Restaurant which has an all vegan menu. Hubby Tom had a fruit smoothie which he said tasted just like a milk shake. Yum. We shared an order of Spring rolls with a peanut dipping sauce and an order of Spicy Sweet Potato Curry with rice. The Blueberry Cheesecake – no dairy of course was the perfect ending to this meal. So creamy and satisfying! The food and service were very good. The location of this restaurant isn’t the best as it’s just on the edge of the tenderloin district and there are a lot of homeless people on the streets there. You don’t want to venture into the area late at night but during daylight hours it was perfectly fine.

New Delhi We were hungry for something spicy one night so we used Yelp to find a local Indian restaurant within walking distance of our hotel. When in San Francisco you don’t want to drive your car unless you have to as the parking is difficult to find and expensive. I asked our sever for suggestions on something vegan and he suggested the Chana Masala – it was spicy hot but the rice with vegetables helped to cool it down. I was happy! We ordered the naan without any oil or butter – yes it was made with white flour but when you are eating away from home, you can’t be perfect.

Haight Ashbury One night we were invited to a private residence for dinner with some business associates of hubby Tom’s. The apartment was located inside the Victorian looking building above. The photo on the top right was the view from the roof top patio. This was not a meatless meal but I had a little snack before we went, tasted the lasagna and concentrated on the salad and the conversation. It was a fun, relaxing evening.

Nutmeg Notes

Back to the real world

It’s so difficult to get back into the routine after being out of town for a four days. I’ve been to Costco, Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s to restock the fridge and the fruit bowls. Yesterday I made a big batch of the California Quinoa Mango Salad and tried a new soup recipe that is so scrumptious we couldn’t wait to have more of it today for lunch. Recipe coming soon. Thank goodness there were some Mexicano Veggie Burgers frozen for an easy heat and eat entree to go with the soup. Today I will also be making our favorite huge fresh baby greens salad with tons of other chopped veggies and three kinds of beans all tossed with our tried and true Dijon Date Dressing.

Fancy photos

Did you notice I made photo collages? I am trying out a new to me web site called PicMonkey which is a free photo editor. Of course if you want to upgrade for a price and be able to fancier stuff they have that option. It’s a nice way to get more photos on a post without making the post epic! I am a slow learner and it took me quite a while to make all of these collages. Once I get the hang of it I think it will be a lot of fun to include collages on my posts.

To  your health,

Tami

What did you do for a vacation this year?

Our vacations this Spring and Summer were mostly spent here in CA with the exception of one trip to Minnesota.

It is hard to get back to the grind! ;)

I read so much about PicMonkey but have not tried.. I am challenged & afraid it may take me way too long to figure out! :)

    1. Tami says:

Yes it is hard to get back to the grind Jody! PicMonkey is pretty easy to use and I found a tutorial on You Tube that I watched first so I kind of knew what to do in what order. Give it a try!

I love PicMonkey, but I still haven’t mastered the collage. I’m a whiz at adding text, though. :)

I know, how can something so awesome be free!? I want to visit Maine some day. In fact I have several East coast destinations on my list of places to visit. I would enjoy seeing some of the shows in Vegas!
