Organic Matcha Review with a Mango Mint Smoothie Recipe

Have you heard of Matcha Tea powder? I was recently given a bag of Organic Matcha culinary grade green tea powder from Kiss Me Organics to try and review. I was excited to see what it was going to taste like and how my body would react to it. Green tea sometimes gives me an upset tummy so I had my first drink and then waited to see what was going to happen next…

The first thing I made with it was this awesome Organic Matcha Mango Mint Greem Smoothie. I dissolved a teaspoon of the matcha powder in a couple teaspoons of warm water and then added it to the blender with the rest of the ingredients. Not only did it taste delicious but I felt like I had a boost of energy all day long. Mind over matter or a real metabolism boost – who knows for sure. No caffeine jitters which I was worried about and no upset tummy either. I have had the same results each time I have had the Matcha in the morning. Since I am super sensitive to caffeine I haven’t tried it later in the day for fear that it will keep me awake all night.

For the second testing I whipped up this Matcha Latte using unsweetened almond milk. I had no idea how wonderful this cup of joy would be. The little aerolatte can be purchased at Bed Bath & Beyond for just under $20. It will froth the milk in seconds – love it! For this recipe I went with just 1/2 teaspoon of matcha dissolved in two teaspoons of warm water. Heated up the almond milk, frothed it, poured it into the cup, added a little NuNaturals vanilla stevia drops and it was delightful! This was my first attempt at trying to get all fancy with the foam – clearly I have a lot to learn where that is concerned. The latte was lovely. I didn’t get as much of an energy boost from this drink since I used 1/2 of what I used in the smoothie. I did enjoy it and had no adverse side affects like I usually get from green tea. I am very pleased with this product. You can purchase it on Amazon. It isn’t cheap at $25 for a 4 ounce bag, but do keep in mind that you only need to use 1/2 – 1 teaspoon per serving so the bag will go a long way. You also gain access to a free e book of recipes using Matcha after you make your on line purchase. I have been making the smoothie more than the latte just because the weather is warming up and I like a cold breakfast after my morning walk.

  • 1 cup coconut water – I like using this after a work out but you can sub regular water
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 3 cups or so fresh baby spinach – I don’t measure I just put handfuls into the blender
  • 3-4 stems of fresh mint – leaves removed from stems – or to taste
  • 1 tablespoon ground golden flax meal
  • 1 frozen banana- cut into 1/2 inch slices
  • 1 1/2 cups frozen mango chunks
  • a few drops of NuNaturals vanilla stevia drops or your choice of sweetener to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Organic Matcha green tea powder mixed with 2 teaspoons warm water – stir until dissolved
  • 1 cup of ice or more if needed to make it thick and icy cold
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Divine Organics Cacao Nibs – optional

In blender container place all ingredients – except the Cacao Nibs. Process until its well blended, add 1 teaspoon of Cacao Nibs is desired and use the pulse action to incorporate them and break them up a little. Reserve the remaining 1/2 teaspoon nibs for decorating the top of the smoothie once its in your smoothie jar.

A Nutmeg Notebook recipe.

Enjoy!

I tried this brand and liked it a lot! I only made lattes with it as they were so wonderful that I never tried anything else… Sadly, the bag is now empty. Like you, I enjoyed the boost of energy without feeling all jittery…

    1. Tami says:

Oh yes the boost of energy is a good thing,

I have not tried this brand, but I do like matcha tea. I know that all brands are not created equal though. While I enjoyed one, I purchased another from the Asian market and it was awful. I ended up throwing it away. I’ll have to give this brand a go if I see it. Love the bright green color of your smoothie!

    1. Tami says:

I agree with you Renee all brands are not created equal. The first one I bought had brown rice powder mixed in with it! I should have read the back of the label – I didn’t realize it until I made a cup and there was all this grit in the bottom of the cup! HAPPY HOLIDAY TO YOU!
