Here in Northern California we are so fortunate to have a wide variety of stores and farmer’s markets to shop at. I find myself shopping at a few stores each week in order to find all the produce and other grocery items that I like to use. Today I am sharing my last Whole Foods Market grocery run with you. I don’t do major grocery shopping there but they do carry some items that we really like. Prices on some items have come down since they were aquired by Amazon and that has been nice to see. I will also share recipe links to help you see how I use these items in my weekly food plan. Watch the video first so you can see what I bought and be sure to have a note pad handy so you can jot down any items that you are interested in.
These brown rice wrappers are very handy so keep a pacakge in your pantry. I use them for my Fresh Spring Rolls – which are such a delight to eat when the weather is warmer. I like to set up all the ingredients and let everyone roll their own. It’s fun and that way people can customize what goes in their spring roll. They are gluten free and easy to use once you get the hang of it. You can also make Crispy Spring Rolls that are oil free and gluten free and crisp up in minutes in the air fryer. It’s almost too good to be true but it really works. Then I discovered that you can use brown rice wrappers to make delicious vegan sausages – that’s right vegan sausages! Check out my video and blog post for Darn Good Vegan Sausages. These will blow you away!
A wide variety of vegetables including the red cabbage go into my Big Beautiful Salads and Big Beautiful Chopped Salads. Batch prepping salads has made a huge difference in how many salads we eat. Since they are made ahead that means we eat a salad everyday for lunch. It only takes about an hour to prep salads for 4-5 days. Oh my goodness then when you chop the salad it becomes the most delicious salad every. These salads are a game changer. Batch prepping my salads and eating a chopped salad everyday is a big part of my ability to maintain my healthy weight. They are filling, low calorie but nutrient dense. I look forward to my salad everyday and never tire of eating them.
This is one of our favorite vinegars. You can make my amazing oil free Creamy Balsamic Dressing with it. It is also used in the BBQ Lentils in the Instant Pot recipe. Right from the bottle it is amazing on a chopped salad instead of a salad dressing. I use it in place of worchesthershire sauce in recipes too.
I keep these on hand so I can always make one of our favorite chili recipes in the Instant Pot. Black & Red Lentil Chili from Fat Free Vegan Kitchen is amazing. I always double the recipe and use Napa Valley Naturals Balsamic Grand Reserve in place of the soy sauce the recipe calls for. Serve the chili over brown rice with a big slice of Oven Roasted Kabocha Squash on top.
My family really enjoys the Polenta Lasagna from Fat Free Vegan Kitchen. The sauce uses this tofu and I use spinach instead of kale in the recipe. Go ahead and make a double batch because everyone will go back for seconds. Since it has tofu and tahini in the recipe it isn’t a good recipe for weight loss but if you are feeding people who aren’t trying to lose weight this recipe is perfect for them!
If you haven’t tried making Black Beans in the slow cooker you are missing out on amazing flavor. This recipe also works well with pinto beans. The Muir Glenn Fire Roasted tomatoes are amazing in so many recipes. Check out my Soup Recipes and Tami’s Easy Red Salsa just to mention a few of our favorites! The 365 brand Almond Milk shown in the shopping video is used in the Instant Pot Garlic Mashed Potatoes.
Jicama is wonderful peeled and diced and tossed into a salad. It has a nice sweet flavor and it’s crunchy! You can make Jicama Tortillas for gluten free tacos too. It make a yummy appetizer as you will see in this recipe for Chili Lime Jicama.
These little slider size corn tortillas make cute little tacos. We like to crisp them up in the oven or the air fryer and have a crispy tostada shell. You will most likely need to play around with your oven or air fryer to find the exact right temperature and time to get them crispy but not too crispy. In our air fryer about 12 minutes at 375 degrees seems to work well. We do two trays at once in our Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer and rotate the trays after 6 mintues. Load the tostada up with black beans, pinto beans or Taco Lentils, shredded lettuce, green onions, cilantro and salsa. Yum!
Although not included in this shopping trip I do purchase some items from their bulk food section as well. Organic oat groats, organic wild rice and a few other grains or legumes can be purchased at a very good price in bulk. I will have to do another video of buying bulk items.
