Thank you so much for all of your interest in the Fruit Turkey Tray I posted on Instagram and Facebook. It’s a fun and creative way to have our plant based vegan turkey! Kids love it as well as adults. This has become a yearly tradition with the grand children, It’s an awesome edible art project that allows everyone’s creativity to come out. Regardless of who makes it, everyone will want to help eat it!

We made a short little video showing you how to make it. You will find the video down below in this blog post.

You might already have everything on hand to make a fruit turkey tray. I would have preferred a solid colored tray but I didn’t have one big enough so I used what I had. This was a 14 1/2 inch diameter tray.

Use whatever fresh fruit you have in the fridge. I have used fresh pineapple or canned. If you use apple or pear slices and don’t want them to turn brown just put a couple tablespoons of lemon juice in a small bowl of water and dip the fruit in the water first. Pat dry and proceed. Wash all your fruit well before starting to assemble. It looks best when made the same day you intend to serve it.

You will need a pear for the turkey body, raisins for eyes, some carrots for a beak and feet and a few toothpicks to attach them.
I hope you enjoy this short little video showing you how easy this is to make.

I set out all the ingredients and let the grandchildren make their own fruit turkey.

For the turkey body I used a pear cut in half. It wasn’t ripe so no one got to eat this part but it sure did look cute! Raisins for the eyes and carrots for the feet and beak. These details are attached with wood toothpicks that I cut with kitchen shears.
Round platters come in handy for serving fruit, veggies, muffins, and fruit turkeys!

The grandkids also get a kick out of making these and they are fun to eat!

We made this as an appetizer for our Thanksgiving gathering and it was a big success! Wish I knew how to add a photo. We used a pizza pan covered with aluminum foil as I did not have a big enough platter. Thanks so much for sharing this great idea!
Just made this with my 3yr old granddaughter who is a right fruit bat so she loved it . Thanks for the idea
That is wonderful!
Thanks for the inspiration and idea, Tami. I made one for our Thanksgiving dinner. Our 2 year old WFPB grandson loved it and found it easy to pick up pieces to eat as his appetizer. Even the adults in the family loved the platter. It is cleverly done and I copied the fruit you show in the picture since none of these fruits darken . It’s wonderful to be able to make something both beautiful and healthy, and it’s the perfect finger food.
