Thank you so much for all of your interest in the Fruit Turkey Tray I posted on Instagram and Facebook last week. It’s a fun and creative way to have our plant based vegan turkey! Kids love it as well as adults. I made another fruit turkey this week when Sweet Pea spent the night with us. She was here for the taping of it as well and she was so thrilled when she saw the turkey taking shape. It’s an awesome edible art project to make with your children or grandchildren. Regardless of who makes it, everyone will want to help eat it!
We made a short little video showing you how to make it. You will find the video down below in this blog post.
You might already have everything on hand to make a fruit turkey tray. I would have preferred a solid colored tray but I didn’t have one big enough so I used what I had. This was a 14 1/2 inch diameter tray.
Use whatever fresh fruit you have in the fridge. I have used fresh pineapple or canned. If you use apple or pear slices and don’t want them to turn brown just put a couple tablespoons of lemon juice in a small bowl of water and dip the fruit in the water first. Pat dry and proceed. Wash all your fruit well before starting to assemble. It looks best when made the same day you intend to serve it.
You will need a pear for the turkey body, raisins for eyes, some carrots for a beak and feet and a few toothpicks to attach them.
I hope you enjoy this short little video showing you how easy this is to make. Listen for Sweet Peas commentary – she was here for the filming!
For the turkey body I used a pear cut in half. It wasn’t ripe so no one got to eat this part but it sure did look cute! Raisins for the eyes and carrots for the feet and beak. These details are attached with wood toothpicks that I cut with kitchen shears.
The grandkids also get a kick out of making these and they are fun to eat!

We are also Holland Bowl Mill Affiliates. The 15 inch Holland Bowl Mill Cherry fruit bowl has a permanent home on our kitchen island. It’s beautiful and useful. The heart shaped bowl makes me happy – I love everything heart shaped! We use our 15 inch Beechwood & cherry bowl (his and her’s) to chop our salads everyday. Eating a salad for one meal every day helped me lose weight and become a size 4. I still eat a salad for one meal a day but now it’s a Big Beautiful Chopped salad and it helps me stay a size 4! See the Chopped Salad Blog Post to find out how you can incorporate a chopped salad into your daily food plan and how you can get a free mezzaluna knife with your Holland Bowl order when you use our Holland Bowl affiliate link as well as free engraving and free shipping.

We made this as an appetizer for our Thanksgiving gathering and it was a big success! Wish I knew how to add a photo. We used a pizza pan covered with aluminum foil as I did not have a big enough platter. Thanks so much for sharing this great idea!

Just made this with my 3yr old granddaughter who is a right fruit bat so she loved it . Thanks for the idea

That is wonderful!

Thanks for the inspiration and idea, Tami. I made one for our Thanksgiving dinner. Our 2 year old WFPB grandson loved it and found it easy to pick up pieces to eat as his appetizer. Even the adults in the family loved the platter. It is cleverly done and I copied the fruit you show in the picture since none of these fruits darken . It’s wonderful to be able to make something both beautiful and healthy, and it’s the perfect finger food.
