Tami’s Vegan Faux Parmesan “Sprinkle”

February 19, 2020 by Tami Kramer 7 Comments

A few simple ingredients in a mini food processor and just like magic you have a delicious vegan faux parmesan or “sprinkle” as our little Sweet Pea likes to call it! Does it taste like the real dairy version of parmesan? Uh, no it doesn’t, but it is delicious sprinkled on the plant based versions of foods that you used to sprinkle the dairy version on. My low calorie density version is nut free and you have the option of using hemp hearts or not. It’s yummy both ways. If you wish you can sub almonds or cashews for the oats for a richer flavor of “sprinkle.” Of course that will increase the calorie density but if you are using a small amount it can be worth it!

This is the version using oats and hemp hearts.

It adds so much flavor sprinkle over a soup, pasts dish, or cooked vegetables.

This one was made with almonds and no hemp hearts. So many options!

Think pasta or zucchini noodles with our amazing dairy free Creamy Alfredo Sauce or a thick marinara sauce sprinkled with this scrumptious topping.

We love a generous spoonfull over a baked potato stuffed with Red Lentil Chili. Vegan pizza, baked potatoes, steamed broccoli and the list goes on.

Watch the video to see how easy this recipe comes together.

Equipment

  • Mini Food Processor

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup old fashioned oats or almonds or cashews
  • 1/2 cup nutritional yeast
  • 1/4 cup Hemp Hearts
  • 2-3 teaspoons Table Tasty Salt Substitute or to taste or 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsely

Instructions

  • Put all ingredients in the work bowl of a mini food processor and process until it is well blended. Don't take it too far and end up with a paste, you want it to be powdery.
  • Oats will keep the calorie density lower. Almonds or cashews will make for a richer but higher calorie density sprinkle.

Notes

Sprinkle on pasta, zucchini noodles, pizza, potatoes, vegetables and more.

I have a question about the cheese sauce. Does it freeze? i’m the only one that eats it and I end up throwing a lot of it away after 5 days which I read was the longest it would last.

Are you asking about the faux Parmesan? It will last weeks in the refrigerator or freezer. If you are asking about Donnas Vegan Cheeze Sauce a different recipe – I have never tried freezing it. You could cut the recipe in half and reduce the amount you make. You can try freezing some and see how it does. Happy Cooking, Tami

This is a life changer. Healthy and delicious. Better than Parmesan. I used oregano as I didn’t have parsley and it is fabulous.
